Sophomores Place 3rd at Wonderful World of Water

September 30, 2013

The Biology class traveled to Pierce to participate in the Wonderful World of
Water. Students were divided into groups and rotated through stations, learning
about various aspects of water properties, usage, and conservation.  Some of the
topics included Water in Your Body, Wetland Ecosystems, Water in Agriculture,
Tree identification, Owls, Habitats, Macroinvertebrates, and several others.
After an intense learning experience in the morning, students took a break for
lunch then started the competition portion of the day with the Water Wheel of
Fortune. Teams were asked questions about the topics they learned about earlier
and competed for points.  At the end of the day we learned that Niobrara placed
3rd out of almost 30 teams.  The day was topped off with a water bottle rocket
challenge. While one of our rockets flew steady and true, the wind swept the
rocket into a giant tree....where it probably still is caught.  Special thanks
to the students that spent the time and effort to build, paint, and test the
rockets.
