October 11, 2013

“Soup”er Family and Community Night Planned for November 7

According to the Webster dictionary the word COMMUNITY is defined as….

a :  unified body of individuals

b :  the people with common interests living in a particular area

c :  an interacting population of various kinds of individuals in a common location

d :  a group of people with a common characteristic or interest living together within a larger society

e :  a group linked by a common policy

f :  a body of persons or nations having a common history or common social, economic, and political interests

g :  a body of persons of common and especially professional interests scattered through a larger society

We have all heard the proverb;” It takes a village to raise a child.”   Parents have a vital role in a child’s education while the community has a broader responsibility to assure high-quality education for all students. Research is clear when it comes to academic performance in education.  When parents, families and communities are involved in education students tend to earn higher grades, attend school more regularly, stay in school longer and enroll in higher level programs after graduation.  That is why Niobrara Public School would like to invite you to their upcoming “SOUP”er Family and Community Night.  The night is designed around family/community involvement as well as a matching fund raiser with Modern Woodmen of America for funding new playground equipment.

The “Soup”er Family and Community night is designed for all ages.  Everyone in the Niobrara School Community is encouraged to come and check out the learning that is happening at Niobrara Public School.  The three schools, Niobrara Preschool, Niobrara Elementary and Niobrara Secondary will all have a showcase and demonstrations occurring throughout the evening.  Soup, salad, dinner role and desserts will be served in the lunchroom from 5:00-7:00 p.m. (free will donation).  The classrooms, hallways and lunchroom will be filled with hands on activities, displays presented and prepared by students and the Niobrara Drama Club will also present a short “teaser” of their upcoming play for contest this year at 7:00 p.m.  What a great way to come into the school and see for yourself that Niobrara Public School is a great place.

The Niobrara promoters are planning to have a scare crow building contest that will be judged November 7 at the school as well.  Bingo with prizes will be played throughout the evening.  Bring your family and a friend for supper and enjoy the sights, sounds, tastes and feel of the seasons changing.  We are looking forward to seeing you at the school on Thursday November 7, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
