NCATE hosts Native American Heritage Month Activities

In honor of Native American Heritage month we will be having the following activities:

  • Maza Kute (Ma za Koo Tay) (Iron Shooters) Singers From Santee will perform the Dakota Flag song (via recording over the intercom) at 9:00 am on Monday, November 16th.  The meaning of the song will be explained by Kalon Strickland Sr.
  • The Ponca Flag Song will be played (via recording over the intercom) at 9:00 am on Tuesday, November 17th. The meaning of the song will be explained after.
  • The NCATE team is working to have a tipi set up in the Commons Area.  The process of setting up the tipi including the components will be video recorded for you to share with your class prior to going to the Commons Area to view the tipi.
  • A buffalo (tatanka) box will be explained (via video) by Kalon Strickland Sr.  
  • Additional activities may be planned and staff will be notified.
  • Dakota 38 by Doug Widow
  • Native American Authors displayed in Library. All books written by Native American Authors this month are worth double points for Roaring Readers.
