JV Football vs. Summerland

The Niobrara-Verdigre Cougar JV football team was back in action Monday night, Sept. 18 in Summerland with a 14-39 loss to the Summerland Bobcats.

The young Cougar defense played very well to open the game generating a lot of pressure in the backfield.  We shut down the Summerland rushing attack but were unable to cover a Bobcat receiver on a couple of big plays through the air.  Summerland’s scores came on long pass plays (PATs failed).  Meanwhile the Cougar rushing attack and play-action pass game was able to gain some traction.   The first Cougar score came on a Kash Nielsen to Colt Adema 22-yard TD pass (Nielsen PAT pass to Layten Moody).  The second score was a 10-yard TD pass from Kash Nielsen to Layten Moody (PAT failed).  Halftime score… N-V 14 Summerland 20.

The 2nd half saw some physical defense from the Cougars, but, again, big plays sparked the Bobcat offense.  Turnovers & mistakes in key situations also proved to be too much for the young N-V team to overcome.  The game ended N-V 14 Summerland 39.

The Cougars JV football team plays Wausa Monday, Sept. 25 in Verdigre with a 6:30 pm kick-off.  GO COUGARS!!
