Peru State Powerlifting Meet 1/14/23

Niobrara-Verdigre Powerlifters finish 3rd at Peru State Powerlifting Meet…

Twenty-two lifters from the Niobrara-Verdigre powerlifting team traveled to Peru State College this past Saturday, January 14th for the Peru State Powerlifting Meet.  Wow, this was the largest meet we have ever attended with 300 lifters competing.  And, again, there was a line-up of very stiff big school competition from around the state.  The Cougar lifters were ready for the challenge and competed VERY WELL as they continue to build momentum with each meet.  We can be very proud of our kids.  They did an amazing job of representing our schools and communities.  Other schools are taking notice of these lifters and their efforts.

The Niobrara-Verdigre Girls team finished in 3rd place!  Top 3 Girls Team standings…  1st place Columbus; 2nd place Lexington; 3rd place N-V.  Other girls teams competing were Conestoga, Crete, Columbus Scotus, Bellevue East, Omaha Central, Johnson-Brock, Boyd County, Omaha Gross Catholic, and Omaha Skutt.

The Cougar Co-ed Team finished in 5th place.  Top 5 Co-ed Team standings… 1st place Lexington; 2nd place Columbus; 3rd place Bellevue East; 4th place Crete; 5th place N-V.  Other Co-ed teams competing were Omaha Skutt, Conestoga, Omaha Gross Catholic, Omaha Central, and Johnson-Brock.

The Cougar Boys Team finished in 7th place.  Boys Team standings… 1st place Lexington; 2nd place Crete; 3rd place Bellevue East; 4th place Grand Island; 5th place Columbus; 6th place Omaha Skutt; 7th place N-V.  Other boys teams competing were Johnson-Brock, Omaha Gross Catholic, Omaha Central, and Conestoga.

We had one individual gold medal winner… Gabrielle Pavlik in the 198 lb class.  Gabrielle’s performance Saturday made history!  She set the Peru State meet record in the bench press (155 lbs), deadlift (405 lbs), and total (875 lbs).  Taylor Pavlik finished with the silver medal in that same weight class.  Gwen Bonham in the 97 lb class and Melody Bonham in the 105 lb class were our other silver medalists.

Other medal winners… Chelsey Rohrer 4th place (165 lb class), Anna Rudloff 4th place (181 lb class), Raquel Morales-Montalvo 4th place (198+ lb class), Olivia Holz 5th place (198+ lb class), and Gavin Rardon 5th place (275+ lb class).  Just missing out on medals were Gunnar Shabram 6th place (220 lb class), Billie Pritchett 6th place (123 lb class), RaeLynne Nelson 6th place (181 lb class), Lorenzo Denny 7th place (275+ lb class) and Wyatt Shabram 8th place (132 lb class).  Isaac Pavlik (220 lb class) and Westin Bauer (148 lb class) finished in the top 10 for their respective weight classes.  Other Niobrara-Verdigre lifters who competed were Jase Kotrous (165 lb class), Jordon Ingebo (181 lb class), Dylan Davidson (198 lb class), Kami Simons (148 lb class), Heidi Hollmann (148 lb class), and Miranda Stohlmann (181 lb class).  All twenty-two lifters competed hard, and each set all new personal bests.  Every N-V record was tied or broken!  For the girls… Gabrielle Pavlik set new school records in squat, bench press, deadlift, total, and strength index (4.53).  For the boys… Gunnar Shabram set new school records in squat (365 lbs), deadlift (445 lbs), and total (1055 lbs).

The Verdigre High School gymnasium will be rocking at the end of February, as the next powerlifting meet on the schedule is the Verdigre Powerlifting Meet February 25th!  The Cougar lifters are looking forward to the opportunity to lift in their home gym and put on a show for the local fans.  We have a nice line-up of competition from across the state planning to compete at our meet.  Should be a fun day!  Lifting begins 10:00 am.

Looking ahead… the Class D State Meet is on Saturday, March 25th at Harvard High School.  And then the Orchard AAU Powerlifting Meet is set for April 1st.  GO COUGARS!
