MINUTES OF REGULAR BOARD MEETING

April 11, 2022

President Moody opened the Committee on American Civics Hearing at 6:45. Staff Presented:

COMMITTEE ON AMERICAN CIVICS CHECKLIST For the calendar year 2022, the Board appointed the following three members to serve on the Committee on American Civics:, Leon Klug,  Ward Adema and Matt Paulsen.

The Committee on American Civics met on the following dates: October 11, 2021 and April 11, 2022 (At least two meetings per year are required.) The Committee accepted public testimony on the following date: October 11, 2021. 

The Committee completed the following tasks (check when completed):

 __X__ Minutes of the Committee on American Civics’ meetings have been kept and show the time and place of the meeting, which members were present or absent, and the substance and details of all matters discussed. October 11, 2021 Board Meeting Notes

_X___ Confirmed the District’s social studies curriculum is aligned with NDE standards. 

_X___ Confirmed that the District’s social studies curriculum stresses the required patriotic themes. 

_X__ Confirmed that the District’s social studies curriculum includes a requirement, in accordance with state law, that high school students (i) complete a written test; (ii) attend a public meeting; or (iii) present or write a paper on an appropriate topic. 

_X___ Confirmed that the curriculum approved by the Committee is available for public inspection. 

_X___ Confirmed that the District’s social studies curriculum includes all required components, in accordance with state law and NDE standards, including (a) one hour per week of patriotic instruction for grade levels below sixth grade; (b) a set amount of time to teach American history for grade levels from fifth grade to eighth grade; and (c) at least two courses in high school that teach American civics. 

_X___ Confirmed that the District will conduct appropriate patriotic exercises for the following holidays: George Washington’s birthday, Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, Native American Heritage Day, Constitution Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving Day.

President Moody closed the hearing at 6:56.

 

Chairman Moody called the regular meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. It was noted that LB898 dealing with Open Meeting Laws was duly posted. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all present.

 

Motion by Klug and Seconded by Teadtke to approve the agenda. RCV: Adema-aye, Bolling-aye, Teadtke-aye, Paulsen-aye, Klug -aye, Moody-aye, Motion Approved.

 

Pat Svec addressed the Board during public comment.

 

Motion by Bolling and seconded by Paulsen to approve the minutes from the regular meeting held on March 14, 2022. RCV: Bolling-aye, Teadtke-aye, Paulsen-aye, Klug-aye, Moody-aye, Adema-aye. Motion Approved.

 

Motion by Bolling and seconded by Teadtke to approve the bills as presented: RCV: Teadtke-aye, Paulsen-aye, Klug-aye, Moody-aye, Adema-aye, Bolling-aye. Motion Approved. 

 

The financial report was presented.  Motion by Adema and seconded by Klug to approve the financial report. RCV: Paulsen-aye, Klug-aye, Moody-aye, Adema-aye, Bolling-aye, Teadtke-aye. Motion Approved. 

 

Motion by Adema and seconded by Teadtke to approve the resignation of Bruklyn Henry at the conclusion of duties for the 2021-2022 school year. RCV: Klug-aye, Moody-aye, Adema-aye, Bolling-aye, Teadtke-aye, Paulsen-aye. Motion Approved. 

 

Motion by Bolling and seconded by Klug to approve the resignation of Nepthys Justo at the conclusion of duties for the 2021-2022 school year. RCV: Klug-aye, Moody-aye, Adema-aye, Bolling-aye, Teadtke-aye, Paulsen-aye. Motion Approved. 

 

Motion by Teadtke and seconded by Adema to appoint Margaret Sandoz, Superintendent, as the authorized State and Federal Programs Director for the 2022-2023 school year. RCV: Adema-aye, Bolling-aye, Teadtke-aye, Paulsen-aye, Klug-aye, Moody-aye. Motion Approved.

Motion by Teadtke and seconded by Bolling to increase the classified base salary by $1.00 per hour and Special Education Driver increase to $45 per route. RCV: Teadtke-aye, Paulsen-aye, Klug-aye, Moody-aye, Adema-aye, Bolling-aye. Motion Approved.

 

Motion by Paulsen and seconded by Klug to approve the purchase of 14 passenger Collins Bus, for the amount $61,713.48 from Harlow’s with funding coming from the Depreciation Fund. RCV: Paulsen-aye, Klug-aye, Moody-aye, Adema-aye, Bolling-aye, Teadtke-aye. Motion Approved.

 

Motion by Klug and seconded by Bolling to approve the 2022-2023 calendar as presented. RCV: Klug-aye, Moody-aye, Adema-aye, Bolling-aye, Teadtke-aye, Paulsen-aye. Motion Approved.

 

Teacher Reports were given.

 

Athletic Director report was given.

 

Administrative Reports were given.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for, May 9, 2022, at 7:00 p.m.
